Description

Trip with a collection of novice and experienced soldiers to become the first British Military expedition to summit Ojos Del Salado 6,893m.
Initially based from the desert north of San Pedro de Atacama we then moved south to Laguna Verde. All with the Norte Centro region of Chile.
There were a number acclimatisation days carried out in all weather conditions; snow, hail, sunshine, overcast, wind.
Peaks summited were:
Cerro Mirador - 4,600m.
Don a` Ines - 5,085m.
Tres Muerte - only to 5,350m.
Nevado San Francisco - 6015m.
Ojos Del Salado - 6,893m.
Our summit day was completed in full winter conditions, -27C, crampons from 5,900m with neve turning to knee deep breaking crust as the day progressed.
First British Military expedition to reach the summit and over 1 year worth of detailed, complicated and painful planning. Passing the many hurdles created by military systems!
