Description

I walked to the summits of Beinn Luibhean and then Beinn Ime following a route that I had plotted myself using Ordnance Survey's online 1:25,000 map.
Beinn Luibhean is almost pathless, and there were no paths from Beinn Luibhean to Beinn Ime for the route that I took. For most of the route up Beinn Luibhean I followed the Walk Highlands route, taking occasional GPS readings to ensure I was on the right track. The summit was easy to find.
I was able to take a slightly more easterly route than the one I had initially plotted, which saved me a bit of time and effort. I had thought this might not be possible due to crags on the OS map, however these were quite easy to walk round. The route up Beinn Ime from the Bealach a'Mhargaidh was quite straightforward, and I joined the main path which leads from Beinn Narnain shortly before I reached the summit of Beinn Ime.
I used my compass more to find a route down Beinn Ime avoiding the rocky steep sections to the west. From the Bealach a'Mhargaidh I walked down to about 650m and followed the contour line to eventually pick up the path I had taken up Beinn Luibhean.
In retrospect it would have been much easier on the legs if I had followed the main path back down Beinn Ime as far as the Bealach a'Mhaim, and from there taken the path that heads west between Beinn Luibhean and The Cobbler.

Area : Loch Fyne to Loch Long (Beinn an Lochain)

South of the A83 as far as Dunoon and sandwiched in between Loch Fyne and Loch Long are a number of peaks, none of which qualify for Munro status. The southern half of the Arrochar Alps includes Beinn an Lochain, which at 901m was wrongly included in Sir Hugh Munro’s original list of 3000ft peaks in Scotland. The mountains list contains all peaks above 600m.
