Description

Continuation of TMB Highlights. Start at Les Contamines to Notre Dame de la Gorge then onto Ref. De la Balme 1706m. Warm and humid on the climb up but the weather was changing and at the flattening below the climb to the col du Bonhomme we put on bad weather clothing as there was a lot of laying snow and a freshening wind. At the Col du Bonhomme 2329m 10cm of fresh snow lay and visibility was about 20m. We made the crossing to Col de la Croix. We should have gone up to the Col des Fours and followed the variant to Ville des Glaciers. However, without ice axe and crampons I decided the conditions were too perilous and so opted for decent to Les Chapieux and found accommodation there instead.
