I instructed Jake by setting up a rope at the top of the crag. I used a static rope using a grigri backed up with a prusuk; this allowed me to go up and down the rope, meaning that when Jake ( a good friend who was being belayed by Adam, another good friend) when Jake was placing gear I could instruct him and allowed him to be safe and also allowed Jake to actually lead, (with me giving him lots of help with the setting up the anchor for the hanging belay), this was a great lesson to me as this allowed me work on my instructing skills
