Description

15.2km, 1100m. Achnashellach, Northwest Highlands.
Clear and sunny all day with a light wind - perfect!
Left Achnashellach station 08.30 and headed up to Coire Lair admiring the wild flowers along the way. Took the right fork to Beinn Liath Mhor getting to the far east top at 12.00. Really enjoyed the ridge with its mix of sandstone and quartzite with tufts of thrift giving pink splashes. Sapphire also tried out her Ruffwear boots for real for the first time (having had her damage her pads on the Horns of Alligin). She adapted brilliantly. Reached Beinn Liath Mhor summit at 13.10 and ended the perfect views over lunch. Headed down to Beallach na Coire Lair, Sapphire doing brilliantly on the steep bits, and decided not to do Sgorr Ruadh and took our time heading back down Coire Liath. At the path junctions GR990502 16.30, Nicky and I picked up an elderly cocker spaniel which had no one with her. Texted and phone the mobile number to no avail. Got back to van 17.30 and headed to the Strathcarron Hotel for a drink to give the owner time to get back. Eventually spoke to Poppy`s owner in Edinburgh! Their friend had taken the dog on the hill and they couldn`t get hold of him. Eventually we left Poppy at Lochcarron police station and headed back to Inverness, our good deed for the day done! A few days later we received flowers and bubbly by way of thank you. A stunning day with a happy ending.

Area : Cuillin and Torridon (Liathach)

This area is on the west coast of Scotland and its most well-known mountains are probably Beinn Eighe (1010m) and Liathach (1055m). The area is bordered by Loch Maree and the A832 to the north and Glen Carron and the A890 to the south. It should not to be confused with The Cuillin which is on Skye and listed in the Western Isles region. The mountains list contains all peaks above 800m.
