Description

DAY 2. Descended from reservoir to A5. Stowed camping gear at car. Ascended steep NE slopes through heather onto the north ridge of Tryfan below the cannon stone. Reached here where the crux of the grade1 scrambling begins. Took all pinnacles head-on save for the final one below the main summit, which requires some climbing. Turned it on its right above a by-pass track, and scrambled the remainder of the ridge to reach the summit blockfield.
Descended the South ridge rapidly and took some food at Bwlch Tryfan. Ascended Bristly ridge screes and established ourselves rapidly on the first pinnacle via a leftward turn and scramble up a narrow gully. Once on the ridge we took all pinnacles head-on. Crossed two `bad-steps`, the second of which 85% up the ridge required some careful route finding and exposed steps around a block and down into a narrow defile. Stiff scramble out and back onto the main ridge which rapidly opens out onto Glyder Fach`s summit plateau.
Crossed the summit block field and scrambled easily to the summit and back off. Took some food. Decided to descend via the tarns of LLyn Caseg-fraith, then up and across Drws Nodded and onto the easy ridge down to Braich y Ddeugwm. Took the subsidiary ridge NW to reach the Nant Gwern y Gof. Crossed stream in spate and walked down the final slopes back to the car.

Area : Glyderau

The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
