Left Strath Cluaine at 14:00,aiming to climb 3 Munros and wild camp at Bealach Choire a Chait. Forecast "Sunshine and Showers" Wind gusts 20mph. Clear on summit of Carn Ghluasaid, visibility was good mostly, although closed in during showers, air clarity was very good, even in rain. Noticed a potential camp spot on the way off Sgurr nan Conbhairean (shelter & water). Walked out to Sail Chaorainn, tagged the north top just to be sure we had the Munro. Decided to camp at 900m at the spot we had earmarked (took advantage of a nice spell of sunshine to set up camp) proved to be a good idea as the rain came back on not long after we were set up and stayed on for a couple of hours. Cold night at this altitude but was comfortable in tent + bivi bag.
Broke camp at 08:00, teh objective to climb 3 Munros and head across the valley to camp at Bealach a' Choinach were in and out of cloud on walk to A'Chralaig, further rain showers, falling as hail/snow on the summit. Continued in and out of cloud onto Stob Coire na Cralaig. Air clarity remained excellent, weather cleared up and sun came out, Dumped our packs at the start of the scramble up to Mullach Fraoch choire. Cam off the hill via path to west between 2nd & 3rd Munro. Headed south on good path then west for climb to Bealach a' Choinach, found a good camp spot by 16:00 (ground was very wet but found an elevated area, still wet, but best site around). Had some dinner and went for a stroll up Ciste Dubh at 18:00, beautiful evening and bliss to walk without the heavy pack (carried map, compass, head-torch and snacks in pockets), back at the tent by 19:00. Comfortable night, noticed the gain in temperature at 600m.
Broke camp 07:30, objective for the day to walk back to Shiel Bridge via the Brothers & Sisters ridge. Walked into cloud before the 1st top of the day, then in and out of cloud/showers until Bealach an Lapain. Weather cleared and stayed clear for remainder of walk - came off Beinn Bhuide and decided to look for a path to the south of Sgur na Moraich (not marked on the map) that would drop us directly back into Shiel Bridge - This was a mistake - we couldn't find a path and had to walk due north back to the footpath on the north of Alt a Chruinn. We could have used this path all the way out. We made it back to Shiel Bridge at 20:00.
Area :
Glen Affric and Kintail
South of Loch Mullardoch you will find the Glen Affric and Kintail area whose southern boundary is the A87 road to Inverness. The Five Sisters of Kintail, Beinn Fhada, Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan and Carn Eighe are just some of the impressive peaks in this area, and all have their own unique selling points such as remoteness, size, steepness or height. As a result, peaks in the list are all over 900m.
