First day back out this winter after damaging my medial ligament in my knee coming down ben avon just before new year. rather than try something small went all out for a huge day.
Patches of snow from 650m, some of which very deep, some still consolidated. We headed in from Achallader farm, following the burn up to coire daingean. We went straight over the bealach towards beinn mhanach, then as the crow flies directly towards the summit of beinn achallader. Steep slopes and crunchy neve made it easier going, had our axes out but no crampons on. Final munro, beinn a chreachain was a welcome relief, so we follwed the coire rim eastwards before dropping directly towards the forest, where we picked up the railway and walked a good bit along that to avoid the boggy areas in the forest.
clear skies gave stunning views across rannoch moor and Ben Nevis stood proudly clear as a bell. Light winds, meant not too much wind chill, but it was still cold enough to remain in my buffalo all day. 11 hours in all, finished up in the dark for the last 2 hours.
