Description

With seven colleagues from work with range of experience. All advised of minimum equipment required for the day including footware, clothing, food & drinks.
Arrived at the pre-arranged meeting point (Lay-Bye on A4086 near PYG hotel) for an 08:30 - 09:00 start.
Checked their equipment was suitable, briefed them on the route we we walking (Path to Pen-Y-Pass, PYG track to summit, descent via Miners Path), discussed the weather forecast, identified a member of the party with suitable experience to assist me if required.Reminded them that they should carry out all litter (food packaging etc) and what do do in the event of an emergency (if something happened to me). Final reminder that we had to stay together as a group and be mindful that the slowest member would dictate the pace.
Began walking at 08:45, arrived at Pen-Y-Pass at 09:10, used facilities and a final check on the latest weather conditions on the notice board. Left Pen-Y-Pass at 09:30. The group maintained a steady pace, no one lagging behind, i led but was constantly stopping to do a head count. Took time to make sure no one had any issues with blisters or the pace we were walking. There was a gently breeze and we walked into the cloud at around 700M. There are a couple of sections on the ascent where some of the group required to scramble, took the time to explain to them that the safest way to do this is to maintain 3 points of contact at all times
Reached the summit at 11:50. As the going got a bit tougher the group were starting to space out a bit, i dropped back to be with the tale end where i could keep an eye on those up front, if they looked like they were going to be going out of my line of sight i gave them a shout and they waited until we all caught up. We reached the summit at 11:45.
Note: When we reached the summit ridge, where the path meets the Llanberis path i met a family who were a little lost, i asked if they were ok and they wanted to know which way to the Lalnberis path (back to Llanberis) - i told them the direction to go and advised them not to veer right (onto Garnedd Ugain), i also advised them that they should be carrying a map and compass with knowledge to use them - they had none of the above!
Left the summit at 12:30 and headed back via the Miners path, cloud base had lowered considerably and the moisture in the air had made the path wet, took the time to explain to some of the group how the descend safely, they were all using a walking pole for extra support/balance. Reached Glaslyn safely and walked back to Pen-Y-Pass arriving at 15:00. We followed the path back to the PYG hotel arriving at 15:20.
