The plan was to climb the trio of Corbetts around Rois Bheinn starting with An Stac and camping around the bealach between it and the Rois Bheinn - Sgur na ba glaise ridge.
Left the car at 12 at Inverailort and used the decent hydro path to climb past Tom Odhar and into the glen. Followed the Allt a bhuiridh for a couple of kms then took a diagonal line to reach the bealach between Seann Chruach and An Stac. A few snow showers came in from the North East and we started to have doubts about the suitability of the campsite location and shelter. Crampons on and axe out for the climb over An Stac which would have been more enjoyable with lighter packs but we were soon squinting at fleeting views of the Inner Hebrides and picking out the Rum and Skye Cuilin ridges. Exposed on the summit we dropped of to the SW to find a bit of shelter for some food and drinks and soon the wind had dropped to a negligible breeze. We then hit upon the idea of camping here, enjoying the views and picking off the two Corbetts the next morning. Time was 4pm so seemed reasonable to get tent up, sort dinner and enjoy the views before retiring for a decent kip. We only had enough water for the walk but we melted snow which was in abundance. Dinner was noodles, spag bol, fruit tea, coffee and chocolate and superb views in between rolling cloud and snow showers. Up and away by 8am the next morning we left some kit at the Bealach and climbed Sgurr na Ba Glaise. Decided to leave Rois Bhein for a day climb from Alisary as my brother had a night out in Glasgow that evening and we were concerned about time. In the end we had a pleasant walk into Coire a bhuiridh and retraced our path following the river and hydro path the previous morning. Back home about 5pm.
Area :
Loch Eil to Glen Shiel
The Great Glen to the east, the A87 to the north and the A830 to the south separate this area from its surroundings and enclose an area of high mountains and low glens. The highest mountain is Sgurr na Ciche (1040m) and further north the South Glen Shiel Ridge is formed by a whopping seven Munros! Also in the area is The Saddle (1010m) which is home to the classic Forcan Ridge. Peaks in the mountains list are all above 900m.
