Description

Personal climbing and coaching with Sophie.
Spent our time on one wall with a 4c, 5b & 6a on it. We both warmed up on the 4c a couple of times, then Soph attempted the 5b but didn't make it to the top, I then tried it and completed, now with the aim of coaching Soph to complete it.
She tried amazingly well after I had spent time reminding he of things like weight distribution, using the features on the wall as well as the holds, positioning and rest stops. Alas she never got to the last hold - it was just a little out of reach, and her biggest obstacle is trusting herself to perform that last little 'pop up' to a hold. This 'pop up' is what is stopping her achieving many routes I believe, and this evenings works highlights this once again.
I then attempted the 6a, my plan being to get to a specific hold and if I could achieve this I would be happy. As it turned out, the hold I was aiming for was quite a good one and this spurred me on. Some fun techniques used (the route was in a corner) and very small toe holds which is what I am trying to improve on personally. Achieved the route with a last 'worrying hold' which I was very pleased about.
I need to make more of an effort for 6's now, in the past I have been too anxious about them.
