Description

Supervising a DofE training expedition with 5 participants, 2 of which a little out of their depth in mountainous terrain in the damp, windy and low vis conditions. Close attention required to navigation on the west to east traverse of the Glyderau. Slow progress of the group led to a late wild camp at "the back of" the Pen y Gwryd hotel.

Area : Glyderau

The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
