Description

I organised this walk with my Meetup group as an easy winter walk, as the hill has a relatively gentle incline for most of the way to the summit. I recommended ice axe and crampons, but said that microspikes would suffice. Eleven people joined me, and I knew almost all of them, apart from two guests. One of the guests was a young woman visiting from Argentina, who had never climbed a Scottish hill before. She did have good walking boots, and she handled the walk well, though she found it difficult and found the first section very steep. The snow was not too deep and crampons/microspikes were not needed. I tried to stay near the back of the group with the slower walkers. The weather was lovely and everyone seemed to enjoy it, and the refreshments at Mhor84 afterwards.

Area : Loch Lomond to Strathyre (Ben More)

Ben Lomond (974m) and Ben More (1174m) sit on opposite sides of this area which stretches from Loch Lomond to the western end of Loch Earn. There are two distinct sections, to the north and south of Glen Voil, with the remaining peaks sitting to the south of Loch Katrine. Access to the majority of the hills in this area is commonly from Crianlarich, Aberfoyle or Callander.
