Description

12.5km + 740m. 09.00-13.50
After the big day before, I'd had a rest day, and then this easy day. The biggest challenge was crossing the Abhainn a Gharbhrain which, with the thaw in progress, was up to mid thigh deep. I had taken crocs to put on for the crossing! Other than that it was a steady pull onto the ridge (10.45) where I met the snow, and then a fairly straight forward to the summit (11.45) and back with a bit of nav in the cloud. I thought I was going to get back reasonably dry after the early rain, but the rain returned after the return river crossing! It was nothing compared the tempest that started just after I got back to the van. Very thankful.

Area : Loch Broom to Easter Ross

North and east of the A835 is the area from Loch Broom to Easter Ross. This road is also the main access point for walking and climbing in the area which contains seven Munros, the highest being Beinn Dearg (1084m). The Ben Wyvis ridge stretches from southwest to northeast from the road towards Loch Glass. Mountains south of Ben Wyvis are in the Glen Cannich to Glen Carron area, whilst those to the west are in the Loch Maree to Loch Broom area.
