16km + 950m. Glen Torridon
Annat (10.00) to Loch an Eion (11.40), path to west of Maol Chean-dearg to GR915494 (12.20) where I started to head up the hill. Got to 870m (13.30) before deciding that the final step and rocky section was not a good idea in the strong, gusting wind. So I retreated back to Annat feeling very pissed off having not got up anything!
In hindsight I should have gone in from Coulags in Glen Carron and up the less complicated south-east ridge. The additional problem I realised I had on the way out was that the last reproofing of the waterproofs had not been hot enough to activate, leaving me wet, and using a lot of energy to stay warm. It was however a good walk with some testing nav higher up. Not a winter day despite the thawing snow slopes higher up.
Area :
Cuillin and Torridon (Liathach)
This area is on the west coast of Scotland and its most well-known mountains are probably Beinn Eighe (1010m) and Liathach (1055m). The area is bordered by Loch Maree and the A832 to the north and Glen Carron and the A890 to the south. It should not to be confused with The Cuillin which is on Skye and listed in the Western Isles region. The mountains list contains all peaks above 800m.
