As a newly qualified Scout saftety in the Hills scout leader I was asked to help out with Wooler Scout Cheviot walk. In the days before snow had fallen above 30 metres and it was decided that summiting Cheviot was not going to be possible due to deep snow the further you climbed. So we let 4 scouts and my daughter to 480 metres and played around on the slopes and drifts never going any further than 3/4 mile from car. They really enjoyed the walk and although disspapointed at not going to the top, the little introduction to winter hill walking was a good lesson for them.
