Description

A hill and mountain skills course for one adult participant. Based in Edale, we covered planning a mountain day, looking at weather forecasts, alternates and bad weather routes, navigation in the hills, movement over steep ground, emergency procedures.
Day one we headed up to Hollins Cross to Mam Tor and then up to Lords Seat on Rushup before returning to Edale.
Day 2 we started in Hayfield and headed up to Kinder Reservoir to use the steep ground in Red Brook to practice movement on steep ground and practice some emergency scenario's.

Day 3 we walked a planned trip out across the Kinder plateau. This gave the opportunity to put into practice much of the learning from the previous day. The route started in Edale up Grindsbrook Clough and the steep gully onto the plateau. The route then went across the peat goughs to Kinder Downfall before heading back to Jacobs Ladder and return to Edale.

Area : Dark Peak

Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
