Description

I was one of a team of 2 MLs taking a large group of NCS students on their 'Mountain Adventure' days as part of their activities week programme.
This involved guiding them on a lowland walk, introducing them to the history of Hadrian's Wall and making sure all participants had a safe and enjoyable hike. We also taught basic navigation skills and then ran an orienteering course for them.
We ran a variation of the same walk along the wall from The Sill YHA to Houseteads Fort and around the museum for different groups on each of the 3 days. The main challenge we faced this week was the intense summer weather and making sure that all of our charges had enough water and sunscreen for the walk.
