After hurting my thumb whilst bringing debs up on Button Wall, I wasn’t looking for anything strenuous, but was taking a lot of time deciding what to do next before the weather closed in. We chose cool grove as we were nearby and it was free (lots of climbers around).
The start was ok, but this route is covered in bird crap so wasn’t an exciting place to be. I got halfway up and became stuck as to where and how to progress over the overhang and bridging over the open drop.
I decided to call it a day, and with help from debs I downclimbed, taking the gear out as I went. Feel very pissed of over it, but as debs said it gave some good learning points.
I also had to improvise a gear placement using a hex (was catching but not quite big enough) and a small nut. It was unconventional but safe and worked - it held my weight!
Area :
Peak District Grit: Stanage Edge
Simply the finest crag on grit with well over 1000 routes of all grades and styles. The most popular of climbing areas in the UK with a huge number of classic routes. We have split the area into the same divisions as used for UKC logbooks, namely Stanage Popular, Stanage Plantation and Stanage North. Bouldering activities should be entered into the 'Outdoor Bouldering' section of DLOG. Routes on other gritstone crags, such as Burbage North, should be added to the relevant Area as noted in the Area titles.
