Description

This was the first day of instruction for my NNAS Gold Award. We did navigation legs on the moorland around the Hill of Alyth, with an instructor. There were three of us altogether. I learned a lot to help improve my navigation skills, although it was a difficult time, as my mother had been hospitalised with pneumonia the day before.

Area : Braemar to Montrose (Lochnagar)

Listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The East Mounth: Glen Shee to Mount Keen’, this area includes all of the peaks to the south and east of the A93. Still part of the Cairngorms National Park, these mountains are home to the north facing crags on Lochnagar (1155m) and the most easterly Munro, Mount Keen (939m).
