Description

Flying solo on my third and last day in Lakes. Incredibly beautiful day. Saddleback (Blencatchra) had a full winter coat on and was the most redeeming sight I've ever seen of the Lakes. My original aim was to have a crack at Sharp edge, though as soon as I seen it, I knew it wasn't to be. The spindrift was incredible. The forecast hinted at a calming of force so I pushed ahead to see how it went. It didn't. I nearly got blown away from the cairn at the base of the route. I waited it out for a while but reluctantly accepted what I had been denying for so long!. In the end I made my way back down to Scales Tarn and then up through the drifts and to the summit where I descended Hall's fell in between some hoofing gusts. Was interesting to see the wetness of the snow in some lower areas and how it had balled up and rolled down the hills. I kept around low angled hills and shallow patches to be safe. Overkill, maybe, but I'm just learning about avalanche risk and don't want to get in the habit of being complacent.
Unfortunately no pics as deleted card by mistake!
