Description

Day 4 of a 5-day Introduction to Winter Mountaineering, working for the Adventurous Training Foundation Wing in Inverness. Walked into Coire an t-Sneachda and used East side of Fiacaill Coire an t-Sneachda for some sliding practice before heading across to the West side of Fiacaill a' Choire Chais to practice axe work. Headed over the fiacaill and into Choire Cas to build a shovel up before heading down to the cafe. A difficult day of weather and making do with the conditions that were in front of us. Snowcraft and self-arrest were vocal points

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
