Description

Have been out assisting/shadowing George Rowntree run a winter skills course for an experienced father and inexperienced son team.
Up the ridge from the lower ski car park to coire laogh mor covering feet placements along the way. Once in the coire, we looked at cutting steps, ice axe arrests and walking in crampons.
From here we summited Cnap Coire na spreidhe and the into Ciste mhearad to look at snow pits and snow pack evaluation. Up on to summit cairngorm and then back through the ski fields to the car park.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
