Conditions had been pretty lean for a while, so I was keen to get out, even though the weather forecast was pretty poor. Skinned from about half way up the enclosure towards Beinn Ghlas, passing several groups of hillwalkers who were labouring through deep areas of soft snow which had a breakable crust forming over it - looked pretty miserable! About 2/3 of the way up Beinn Ghlas, I then started to meet well-equipped groups coming back down off the hill who indicated that the wind had made progress torturous. Given the snow conditions weren't great I opted to skin up a little higher until the wind start buffeting me, then skiing back down off the western side of the hill. conditions were pretty mixed - some areas had new accumulations of shallow windblown snow that gave good skiing, interspersed with areas of breakable crust over fluff, which was less rewarding to ski on.
