Description

Went to Coire Na Ciste Car park. Used the old base as a shelter and practised winter skills in the bowl behind it and on the slopes up towards the ski lifts. 60mph winds and a group of 5 scouts learning the basic of winter skills i.e using their boots to cut steps, axe work , crampons and self belay. Similar day to the day before but with a different group of scouts.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
