Description

Winter guiding day, 1:1 with a client working for Pure Outdoor. Third day with the same client.
Parked by the Balsporran cottages and headed across towards A'Mharconaich first. Chased a number of snow hares slowly up the hill side through the day, beautiful to watch! As we started to get to the broad shoulder of the ridge we lost visibility and did some good navigation work, finding the sharper part of the ridge was tricky. Up to near the summit and looked at spiral searches to find our actual cairn (quite buried).
The dropped down and across to the col of Coire Fhar then up and across to the summit of Geal Charn and back down to the car. Great day out and the client had show a significant improvement in their navigational ability and confidence over the 3 days.

Area : Loch Rannoch to Newtonmore (Beinn Udlamain)

This area is listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The Drumochter Hills) and covers the hills and mountains between Loch Rannoch and Newtonmore. Loch Ericht forms the western boundary and Glen Tromie the eastern boundary, with the Pass of Drumochter (the A9 and the Highland Main Line) dividing the area in two. Among the seven Munros in this area, only one is over 1000m (Beinn Udlamain is 1011m).
