Description

Took advantage of a rare (summer 2020 anyway!) heatwave and headed up Culter Fell for a wild camp then a round of the Grahams/Donalds in the area. Hot work plodding up shin fell and was met with a strong wind on summit plateau. Took shelter in a small depression but on a promontory around 700m and with great views to Tinto and Biggar. Pleasant night and up and away by 8am next morning. No views anyway and damp/windy so good to get moving. Headed over summit then followed clockwise to Gathersnow hill (great name!) then round to windfarm area and dropped down to cowgill resr when sun appeared and dried me out. Enjoyed some micro nav around summit of Hillshaw and good to recap techniques ahead of an NNAS Tutor course with Aspen Outdoors on Monday. Also noted a fairly tempting expanse of cloudberries which would've been reduced substantially had it not been for the weather!
