Description

Shadowing session. Working with Colin Johnson on behalf of Borderlands Outdoor. We had a family of 4 for a beginners session.
I helped Colin set up two TR’s and whilst he got started with the group I went and set up a group abseil pitch. On completion I helped Colin with the family climbing, and then the de-rigging of all the setups.
A great day of learning - putting into practise a typical group abseil, and also learning what choice of anchors could be used. The equipment we had was suitable although there was a slight lack in the amount of metal work - we both had to resort to using some of our own gear. This was a great learning point for me and my business - providing more than enough for a session, not just ‘enough’ is really important to ensure smooth running.
Also I have already planned how to deal with groups whilst ropes are being set up, and this would have been useful today, as the family were left for some time whilst Colin and I set up the TR’s.

Area : The Wye Valley, Monmouth, Gloucestershire and The Malverns
