Description

Two linked days. 24th was a group walk to Lochnagar to look at the path repairs with Path Standards Advisory Group. Climbed by col with Meikle Pap, and plateau edge to summit. Descent by Glas Allt and Glas Allt shiel to loch Muick and start. I was then taken by car to Braemar, where I crossed the Dee and went solo to camp at the top of Slugain. On 25th I climbed through the mist to Beinn a' Bhuird South top then North top. In clear sunny weather to Beinn a' Chaoruinn Beag and main summit. Then down to Fords of Avon and the Saddle. Leaving my sack here, I returned to Loch Avon and climbed Beinn Mheadhoin, traversed the summits and descended via the Shelter Stone to Loch Avon and returned to my sack. Then up via Ciste Mhearad and the flank of Cairn Gorm to car at car park.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
