Description

A beautiful clear day to introduce my girlfriend to mountain walking. We did my usual gentle amble around the Pen y Fan circuit, starting in the car park just below the Lower Neuadd Reservoir, heading South east around the base of of the hills on the Taff path until we got to the ridge that leads to Waun Rydd. After ascending and following the path to the waterfall, we then headed west eventually looping around north passed the cairns and stone piles to re join the path between Waun Rydd and Fan y Big. From here we followed the path to Fan y Big, Cribyn, across to Pen y Fan and Corn du and then headed South East around the ridgeline to the cairn directly east of the Lower Neuadd Reservoir, then descended down the gill and pack to the car park!
All in all, a great day out. Though a steep learning curve and fitness curve for my girlfriend. But she hasn't been put off.... thankfully!

Area : Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park

Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) is a mountain range in South Wales. In a narrow sense, the name refers to the range of Old Red Sandstone peaks popular with walkers which lie to the south of Brecon. Sometimes referred to as "the central Beacons" they include South Wales' highest mountain, Pen y Fan. The range forms the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog), a designation which also encompasses ranges both to the east and the west of "the central Beacons". This much wider area is also commonly referred to as "the Brecon Beacons".
