I walked with an 'equals' partner and this is a walk I have walked on a regular basis. However, before I set off I looked carefully at the route on the map. I then took the OS Explorer map with me and checked where we were throughout the walk. I worked out distances to the next footpath junction. At times it was quite difficult to follow the footpath as the forest was very wet for the time of year and we needed negotiate boggy conditions.
From Waters Green in Brockenhurst follow the main Lyndhurst Road towards Lymington, take first left and follow North Rd using the bridge to cross the railway line. At the T Junction turn right and the immediately left and follow the narrow road until you come to Church on right. Turn left and then take first bridleway on left into Roydon Nature Reserve and follow to cross stream and then to first permissive footpath on right 1.2km . Cross over bridge and follow footpath with bends to left until main track 0.8km. Cross bridleway and go through gate. Follow permissive footpath for 0.5km. Go through gate, turn left, follow track downhill to bridleway. Turn right and follow to end and then join road and follow to Red Lion Pub 1.6km. Turn left and follow road to cross river and sharp bend to right. Proceed uphill past Fleur de Lys pub on right and post office on right. 2.4 km. 0.5km after PO take bridleway to left and follow to open forest. Follow footpath directly across forest for 0.8km. Cross onto rough forest land and follow footpath for 1 mile keeping fences on left. Turn left to Little Dilton Farm through gate and follow track past stables and house to end 0.8km. Turn right at T junction and then immediately left past Dilton Gardens on right, cross ford and Roydon Manor on right to T junction.1.6km. Turn right and after 0.3km turn first right and follow permissive footpath uphill for 0.5km. Turn first right through gate and follow permissive footpath for 0.5km. Turn right on permissive path and follow downhill past pond on left and then uphill to Bridleway. 0.8km. Cross bridleway and follow permissive footpath 0.8km to T junction. Turn left on Bridleway and follow to road. 1.2km. At road turn right and follow to church and then retrace steps to Waters Green Brockenhurst. OS Explorer 1:25 000scale map used. Total 16.8km
