Prepared as per routine, checking weather and packing accordingly and assessed the route. Terrain was very wet under foot. Although dry at first the wind and rain came even before approaching the top of the munro. Visibility was limited so I had to use all navigation skills to get to the cairn and to make my way down safely. When I got back on the main track the sun had set and I had to use my head torch.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
