Usual preparation checking weather and ground conditions in the area. Snow and ice along most of the route with shin deep snow higher up and moving bearing in mind what I know and learned from winter skils and other winter mountaineering workshops I have done over the years. Weather conditions and visibility deteriorated the closer I got to the munro tops so I had to be on point with my navigation. Successfully reached the tops and made a slight error coming down but I relocated and successfully made it back to main approach path when the sun set.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
