First official session at prestonwall! other than staff training...
Coaching session with 3 kids aged 10-14. Delivered with an assistant (Ellie). I took Elliott, a highly dyspraxic 10 year old for a 1:1 while Ellie worked with Joe and Laurance.
I got Elliott to focus on foot placement, starting with standing on corners of the matting carefully before progressing onto careful foot placement on the traverse wall. Next, we looked at how to move weight between well placed feet. Back onto the rubber matting to look at how the size of the step affects the ease of movement. After breaking down the movement into parts, we got back onto the wall and saw immediate improvement.
Trying to do lots of asking with relative novice climbers could end up being very infuriating when they just want to be told the answer, but the ground practice helped him get the answer and stopped him from being totally wasted by half way through the session.
