Description

Walked south along the road from the Legburthwaite car park then south east on a track, over a style then onto the path to Sticks Pass. Followed the path south east then east to sticks pass. On approach to the pass there were some patches of snow the wind picked up - it was coming from the east (15-20 mph), from sticks pass headed north on a wide track to the summit of Stybarrow Dodd. The wind was a good bit stronger on the summit with gusts up to arond 30mph. Followed a good clear path initially north east the West North West to Watsons Dodd, enjoying having the wind on our back. From the summit of Watsons Dodd headed north east to the highest point of the walk Great Dodd. Took advantage of the summit shelter to check the map and take a bearing as the descent is pathless and there is only one safe crossing place of Mill Gill. Headed west south west to Little Dodd and continued on the same bearing until picking up a path to the crossing point of Mill Gill, followed a path between the edge of a wood passing Castle Rock on the west side, then through a gate and followed a faint path south west back to the road emerging at a gate across the road from Legburthwaite car park.

Area : Eastern Fells

The Eastern Fells occupy the region between the A591 Keswick to Ambleside road and the lake of Ullswater to the west. The Helvellyn range forms the main spine of the group. To the south across the depression of Grisedale Hause, is the Fairfield group of fells.
