Description

The first day of a Rockhoppers MC trip staying in Newtonmore. As the first day coincided with a poor weather forecast a decision was made for the whole group to walk from the hostel. With A' Challeach being the first target, from where it was planned to split the group according to ambitions and conditions, with one group hoping to practice some skills in a suitable sheltered spot, others tackling a second munro or returning over Geal Charn. However a blizzard on the summit put paid to all further plans and a hasty descent was made back the way we had come.

Area : Monadhliath Mountains (Carn Dearg)

Monadhliath Mountains means "grey mountains". Running in a northeast to southwest direction, the mountains lie on the western side of Strathspey, to the west of the Cairngorms and to the south east of Loch Ness. The mountains are within the Highland council area, and the south and east fringes are within the Cairngorms National Park. The high point of the range is Càrn Dearg, at 945 m/3100ft, located 24 km south of Inverness.
