second day out with the same person, who has a fused ankle. This time I thought he could try to second up a slightly harder climb. Unfortunately it turned out the route was covered in brambles and it seemed big chunks of loose rock made it too unstable for him to climb, so I decided to abseil off and take the gear out.
The con seemed a better option and he tried climbing in his boots, rather than climbing shoes, since he said he felt a bit unstable in climbing shoes. The rock was much better but the climb was a bit harder and probably at the top of his grade for now. We abseiled off and we talked about the difference in using climbing shoes/hiking boots, what worked what didn't work, what hurt and what seemed better.
