A big day out with my friend Jess, who's recently moved to Lancaster. Starting on the road in Swindale, walking over the Old Corpse Road toward Mardale and taking in a big circuit of peaks. This was a route I planned and navigated, the area and all the peaks were new to me and there were sections of open moorland navigation. The total route was around 29km with over 1500 metres of ascent, so was a physically substantial day also.
Area :
Far Eastern Fells
Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
