Description

Outdoor climbing day with 12 participants. I was the lead instructor, with a 2nd RCI working with me, and a trainee RCI consolidating in preparation for assessment. 8 of the participants had climbed outdoors multiple times before whereas 4 were new. We selected routes to avoid those who had done things previously, making the rigging harder for us as it was a new area. We split the group between those who could crack on with climbs (route selection to match their experience) and I took the 4 new climbers for some coaching to introduce them to the differences between out and in door climbing, specifically footwork, chimneys and crack climbing.

Area : Peak District Grit: Stanage Edge

Simply the finest crag on grit with well over 1000 routes of all grades and styles. The most popular of climbing areas in the UK with a huge number of classic routes. We have split the area into the same divisions as used for UKC logbooks, namely Stanage Popular, Stanage Plantation and Stanage North. Bouldering activities should be entered into the 'Outdoor Bouldering' section of DLOG. Routes on other gritstone crags, such as Burbage North, should be added to the relevant Area as noted in the Area titles.
