A day working with Helen, Helen is preparing for her RCI, and wanted to get a second opinion on setup as well as talk to you a number scenarios. We looked at setting up a group anchor a personal anchor and a group abseil. Helen did well but took quite a bit of time because of a lack of a systematic approach and needed to check. We talk through options on this and looked at using the rope to wait the anchor after the first bit of gear is in to make it easier to attach the second rope and discussed the use of AN IDEAL as a means of systemically checking and rating and anchor. We also looked at selecting suitable candidates for a abseils. We discussed and walk through maintaining effective self protection when converting a lead anchor to a personal abseil as well as looking at efficient means of doing it without creating undue risk. Helen then rent a group abseil and we first tested it to make sure her current controls good and then we looked at using a weighted bag as a abseiler to go through the process of releasing trapped hair etc. This was a combination of on-the-ground activity and rigging at the top of the crack. We picked the venue on perceived similarity to wear her assessment would like to be to mimic both landscape and types of anchors.
