Description

Away from Hutchison Hut at 9, up by the burn well left of the cliffs to the col below Derry Cairngorm. Left rucksack & up to top of Derry Cairngorm. Cloud inversion but beautiful sunny morning above.
Along top of Sputan Dearg & to top of Macdui where I had a good natter with Mungo Ross & friend. To west only Nevis seemed clear of cloud but M told me they were also poking through on Easains. Then down S of Tailors Burn & along ridge of Carn a' Mhaim with Brocken Spectres & a fog bow on descent. Felt like it was getting late but I went from summit to Linn of Dee in 2h15m & arrived at 4pm as light began to fade. A great couple of days.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
