Description

Start: Seathwaite, Borrowdale NY 23508 12204
Distance: 11k
Duration: 7 hours, 6am-1pm
Direction: S then SW following stream to Sty Head; SW Corridor route beyond Piers Gill then SE to summit of Scafell Pike; NE over Broad Crag to Esk Hause 759; roughly N following public footpath alongside Grains Gill stream and back to Seathwaite.
Description: Last day of week in Lakes with rain every day - put off Scafell pike but decided worth trying today and best chance was AM, so started 6AM. Rain forecast 4pm; it arrived early but mostly light whilst I was out. Some scrambling over corridor route, and then thick cloud on top - navigation over Broad Crag was then difficult and contours did not translate the way I expected - I expected the steep slopes but thought they would be heading down not up; took some time tracing contours round on the map to check the level to ensure correct direction.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
