Start: Low Haygarth SD 69735 96671
Distance: 7k
Duration: 2.5 hours
Direction: NW up Cautley Spout, then rising steeply W to alt, rounded summit of Calf. Return via Hare Shaw picking up the path in the small valley to N.
Description: The Calf (Howgills) via Cautley Spout (short walk on the way to Keswick holiday.) Impressive waterfall and steep, short climb over mostly tufty grass. On return, used a slope (not a path but would have been good for one) more gently down to give a gentle end to the day - I think walking group walks would prefer it gentle, especially after a steep bit early on!
Area :
The Howgills
