Description

Start: Lin of Dee car park NO 06322 89743
Distance: 30k
Duration: 9 hours
Direction: NW then N up Glen Derry, Bynack More north top, descending NW then WSW through the gap by An Lochain Uaine to Glenmore main road.
Description: Walk from Lin of Dee to Glenmore via Bynack More north top on a hot, sunny day. This is basically a pass route crossing through the Fords of Avon river crossing, which was OK due to dry weather. The heat was a challenge and no water was available after here as streams were dry, relying on carried water but not quite enough - bit thirsty, tired. Learning point: coping in extreme heat/ drought where no water available for filter.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
