Coaching a group of 11 pupils working on NICAS3. All in schools climbing competition squad.
Included moving them to the next stage in preparation to lead climb. Have already worked on locking off and finding positions to take a hand off. Today introduced clipping. They climbed on top rope with a short rope tail to clip.
Most enjoyed this, though some found it frustrating as they wanted to keep pushing hard climbs (in retrospect, I should have assigned them routes rather than letting them choose). All commented on how it changed how they had to approach a climb and we were able to discuss visualising and planning sequences of moves to include clipping. It was a successful segment of the day's session as it put a lot of what they've been learning into practice.
It was also refreshing to work with a qualified CWI. As it was someone I've worked with a lot before they qualified, and is my regular climbing partner, we were able to read each other and the session flowed well. With being qualified, it allowed us to take subgroups into different parts of the wall to meet their needs.
