I camped near the start of the Lairig Ghru, walking in from the Sugar Bowl car park in the evening of 30th May. The following day I walked along the Lairig Ghru in searing heat, crossed the Allt an Lochain Uaine, and ascended to Lochan Uaine. I stopped for lunch and then climbed up the North East or Angel's Ridge to reach the summit of Sgor an Lochain Uaine. From there I paid a visit to Cairn Toul and then headed up to Braeriach before going back to my tent for another night's camping. I walked back to the car park the following day.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
