Description

A "New Graham" bagging solo walk on a beautiful but freezing cold winter day that almost turned into a disaster. After reaching the summits of Cruach nan Capull and Cruach Neuran, I headed down to a recommended firebreak, however it had been recommended before Storm Arwen hit, and I ended up getting stuck in the forest for hours due to piles of fallen trees. Eventually I managed to find my way out in pitch blackness - luckily I have an excellent head torch. As these hills are surrounded in forest, I ended up having to climb back over Cruach Neuran again, and then partially over Cruach nan Capull. I was carrying a lot of warm gear, and it turned into a very pleasant but very long night walk.

Area : Loch Fyne to Loch Long (Beinn an Lochain)

South of the A83 as far as Dunoon and sandwiched in between Loch Fyne and Loch Long are a number of peaks, none of which qualify for Munro status. The southern half of the Arrochar Alps includes Beinn an Lochain, which at 901m was wrongly included in Sir Hugh Munro’s original list of 3000ft peaks in Scotland. The mountains list contains all peaks above 600m.
