Description

Solo QMD exploring completely new ground.
A circular walk from a valley campsite. Rained pretty much the entire time. Cloud base was around 500m for the day so much of the walk spent in low visibility. Dropping off north from down crag, I took a left turn in the saddle to drop down to seathwaite tarn on a bridleway, but this bridleway was almost non existent halfway down. Due to the high amount of rain all streams had expanded and so use of anything other than contours was pointless. This served me well as there then came a good amount of contour navigation away from any paths which was great to be able to do.
Looking after myself and my dog in this weather was good - although I was soaked through due to sweating and use of goretex (not a fan of) I was comfortable with plenty of extra layers.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
