DofE practice exped. Working with a group of 7. Quite a cocky group and did well at come cards/bearing card the day before. Quick learning in the head but not inclined to practice real world. I provided the 5D structure and then got them leading 200m legs for the first 3km. This allowed them to experience the pressure of doing this in isolation and hopefully created some empathy for their inclination to put one member of the group in charge. They completed their legs correctly but going was very slow. But the more they did it the more they started to get it. Unfortunately when we reached setting off point where they would work as a team dividing up compass reading, map reading, looking out in the real world and leading one of the team members developed lady related problems. Working with the other SMLs we agreed to set the group going up the ascent and I would descend with the unfortunate girl. Having got her to a mini bus safely I then proceeded to the end reverse to meet up with the team. We continue to then nav specific legs back to the camp. The group were quite slow so I managed to get the route in reverse up to a summit.
