PIZ CAVALATSCH DAY
As part of exploring Via Alpina red route (self sufficient with 20kg pack)
9.5 hours, 22km, 1800m ascent, 1440m descent, Valley camp
Summits: Piz Chavalatsch 2763m

Another out of character extreme heat day with valley temps in the 40s so pace management on a big climb very important.

Starting out with steep crisscrossing paths through the forests the on to a more mellow route to the summit. With zero wind, even the summit was unbearably hot and plans were made to pick an alternative descent that passed a small lake asap. After a good soak in a cool pond and refilling extra water bottles, a long traverse and extremely steep descent on classic alps trails was left down to the valley and campsite.
